My LFS is having a $1 per gallon tank sale and I am going to get a new tank. However maximum length is 36" as I have run out of room in my apartment. Once I move, hopefully next year sometime, it will be a different story (90 gallon here we come:))

My stocking list is one small bluegill sunfish who is just growing out, two tiny bluegill sunfish who are growing out as well, 10 small minnows, a male Odessa Barb, a male Checker Barb and a 2" female crayfish.

My tank choices are:

29 gallon (30 x 12 x 18)
30 gallon (36 x 13 x 16)
37 gallon (30 x 12 x 22)
38 gallon High (36 x 13 x 20)
40 gallon Breeder (36 x 18 x 16)
56 gallon High (30 x 18 x 24)

My only concern with the 40 Breeder and the 56 High is that since my fish are small and the tank is so deep, will be I be able to see them all the time? But then again, the water is clear and the tank will have lights on it... I don't know. Never had a deeper tank before.

The aquascaping will be river drift wood and creek sand/rocks. A friend is building a 38l x 20w x 30h stand for me, which would accommodate any of the above tanks.

What do you think is the best tank?

That Fish Place in Lancaster. The sale starts Nov. 1st.

eta: That's not really South Central now that I think about. More like South Eastern, but I think Philly area so I don't know. LOL I should change my profile something a little more accurate.

Oh youre lucky you live close by. I was up there once. They had a ton of everything but I will say that I wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be

One vote for the 40 breeder. Thanks.

I go there all the time, just to look around and stuff. I am into natives so I don't buy a whole lot of fish from them. They do get some awesome feeder guppies quite a bit. I have a 10 gallon devoted to male feeder guppies, and once you get them in a quiet tank with some cover their color really comes out. A couple of the guys there really know their stuff, so I tend to pick their brains sometimes.

Overall, I'd shop there over Petsmart, Petco or any of the other places that sell live fish. Best place I've been was a huge store near Baltimore I think. I don't remember the name of it, but man that place had some many fish. I'd love to go back one day just to walk around.

Another vote for the 40 Breeder from a different forum.

Are my fears about tank depth and small fish unfounded? The minnows are active, so perhaps it will not be a problem...

Yeah, the extra depth isn't going to effect visibility.

40 breeder. I love mine. I had a 55.. but w/ the extra depth to the 40 it made scaping the tank so much nicer. And in my experiance giveing lots of cover = see your fish more! they aren't afraid to come out and about as they know hide spots are available if they need them.
