I also would go for the 40 breeder. I don't like the tall tanks, you can't add as many fish.

Uhm...huh?

I've got a 65 with that footprint, its nice. Out of what you listed I'd say the 40b. Depending on what fish you want to keep though I'd drop the extra 25$ and get the 65 if its on sale as well.

Yes your depth visibility doubts are unfounded...I can't even figure out by what logic you came to that:screwy: Are you just worried about having more stuff for them to hide from? Is there a viewing angle issue going on? Do you think the light won't reach the bottom of the tank so it'll be dark near the bottom (not the case at all)?

A 65g with a 36x18 footprint would be the best choice. That is a great size tank with lots of potential.

If this is not available to you I would go for the 56g 30x18, the extra gallons and size would be a better choice to me. I just dont like the looks of the 40g breeders, they just seem too short. I guess thats why I like the 65g better, taller just looks better.

Agreed. I think tall tanks simply look better.

I've never had a tank deeper than 12", so I have no idea if I will be able to see the minnows if they are at the back of the tank while sitting on the sofa 10 feet away. It will just be driftwood and rocks on creek gravel/sand, so no plants to worry about. Will that be enough to light a taller tank so I can see everything? Or will I need more light?

Yeah, the 65 will be on sale. I think they are capping the sale at 75 gallon tanks.

As far as fish, I am growing out three tiny Bluegill Sunfish (will only keep one once I have sexed them) and the rest are mostly minnows. I am happy with them, just need an interim tank to grow out the sunfish until I move (probably next year) and can set up something 90+ gallons.

One of the real issues I have found is that anything smaller than 18" deep and you have a hard time with decor. I use some of the larger fake wood pieces from Petsmart and they barely fit in my 18" wide tank. So even though the tank seems too deep you will appreciate it more for aquascaping.

deff the 40 breeder! or if you can get the 65! my 112 is 2 foot tall ( wish it was 5 foot by 2 foot by 20 tall instead of 2 foot tall and 18 wide )

GRRRR. Found out today that the only tanks included in the $1/gal sale are the 20L, 20H, 29, 38, 55 and 75. The guy I talked to must not have read the entire memo, as he told me all tanks up to 75 were in the sale. They are also offering 30% off 30 and 40H.

Talk about ruining all my plans. LOL

I still think I want the 40B, so will save up a bit more money and buy it.
