  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i agree with them that they will eventually get too big. especially the bala sharks

naw....not really at lease you got a 55gal not a 29gal. but yeah, think what kind of setup you want and do lots of research first....trial and error and we are here to help.

well said. we are here to help you :)

there is a great bunch of people on this site, that will throw so much info and good advice your way, all ya gotta do is use it

some of your fish will eat fish smaller than them

first that knife ,the dinosaur eel (really a sengal polyopterus) the peacocks and the Raphael's will be fine in that tank I'm not sure about three peacocks though
I know 3 polys wouldbe okay in one for life
max size on the poly and the eels is ~12"
the cats get ~7"
The brown knife 8-12"

the barbs need to be in a different tank as the senegal will eat them once he hits 5-7" alot sooner than you think mine went from a skinny 3" baby to a thick 7" and growing monster in 3 months

move the clawed frog while your at it the sen could happily eat a dwarf frog but could be injured if it tries the clawed frog and it eventually will

the balas are only okay for now not for life as they are active schooling fish that can hit a foot long and should have more swimming space when they do

same problem with the loaches eventually they hit 12" but it takes a long time
the bigger problem comes along with the slow growth polys sometimes try to eat them if they are to much smaller than the poly and can choke

also rainbows you want one in a tank or more than 6 or they can become aggressive with one another

you will need more filtration than the out of box if you want heavy stocked tanks

all in all decide what you want to keep buy new tanks as necessary and return the ones you cant house

and welcome to MFK

If you don't have one already you might want to invest in a qt tank especially if you keep buying from places like petsmart. I completely agree with bluestarjazz get more tanks or get rid of some of the fish.

Can someone offer advice on my current collection or at least tell me if I over did it? Thank you...

You over-did it. Your tank will soon be overcrowded and some of the individuals you have are incompatible. The people at Petsmart are there to sell you fish and chemicals, not to advise you about proper husbandry. Most of them probably have little or no experience. I agree that if you keep buying fish there without using QT your tank will not be overpopulated for long as you will inevitably introduce disease.

Unless you want to split these fish at least 3 ways in equal or bigger tanks than you have now, I'd say it's time to reassess and regroup (and make some returns) Decide which species is your favorite and build around it with compatible fish rather than going to the "Petsmart fish buffet" and feeding that addiction!
