Too many water changes? Is it possible?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well, I'm doing 30 -40 % every other day now and so far all is well and I got eggs from my Jack Dempsey Green Terror pair. I'll keep you guys posted on future observances.

Bottom line is, you do whatever works for "YOU". If your fishes are doing great, no adverse effect on the biological filter...GREAT!

Everyone will have their own opinion and methods that works for them. Sad to say these same individuals will think that their way is the best. Sure it is the best, but for them.

You stated your fishes have grown, healthy and now some spawning going on...well that to me sounds like you are doing something right, and that is all that should matter to you and you only. :D

I agree, I just thought a few opinions would be nice.

I don't think too many water changes are possible.

as long the water is of proper pH, temperature, and dechlorinated etc you won't cause you tank to cycle again.

lots of discus gurus change 50% of their water daily, and they don't have problems..

as long as its done properly, its fine.

we use to have tanks at the LFS where I used to work that got a 25% water change daily...

as long as you are not also going crazy on cleaning your filter every day etc. you won't cause a cycle..

if on the other hand you are changing the water everyday but ALSO rinse the filter every day too, well, then you can run into some major ammonia and nitrite..

I hear ya. The sad thing about trying to get opinions these days...there is always a few individuals that wants to get into a debate or trys to debunk other methods/routines. :)

How much do you think the temperature of the lake drops when it rains?

I won't argue the lake volume vs. a rain shower, though the temp. probably does not drop much, if at all.
I will say that doing 50% WC's on my 125 and refilling with straight cold "conditioned" from the tap drops it only 2 degrees from a steady 80 for about 1 hour.
I've been doing it this way for longer than I can remember and have had no issues with type of fish I've kept/keep.

Err, isn't the idea of getting into a debate to discuss other methods kind of the point of a forum ?

We're supposed to be debating the merits of one method over another and through this process coming to a concensus on what works and what doesn't.

Debating is one thing...but too many times others will always think they are right or superior...and too often it gets out of hand with insults being slammed around.

Discussing is one thing...arguing is another. Look around on some other threads here...too many love to argue for the sake of arguing. There has been quite of civil discussions here which is a great thing...on the flip side too many arrogant people with a complex also. :grinno:
