Algae in my 75g tank is getting out of control. I just took all my rocks out to clean. (It's an all rock tank). I've cleaned the walls and floor of the tank. I have African cichlids in it. I'm also go in to do a 50% water change. The water is cloudy white. Is there anything else that I can do?

Check the ingredients of the fish food. I understand some has high phosphate and this can add to the algae problem. Also, even if you feed a good quality food and tend to feed too much, like I do when I have fry in the tank, then uneaten food dissolves and adds to the nitrogen in the water and creates a good environment for algae. Large, weekly water changes are helpful and using a nitrate reducing filter media like the products from Acural and HBH might be helpful.

Reduce light hours. Reduce feedings and remove any leftover food. Keep up ur water changes and scrubbing the tank.

Would check ur water parameters and make sure ur not going thru a minic cycle as u have cloudy water.

Sorry. Supposed to be mini cycle. Basically ur filtration isn’t enough and bacteria are reproducing too quickly, from the cloudy water. That’s why I mentioned that.

Check that water! Especially when stuff like this happens

Ok, I just did a water change. The water was pretty clear until I took everything out and cleansed the algea off of the glass. The last water change was Sunday. I have 2 of the actual filters.

How long has the tank been set up? And what are your water parameters? We would need some of that info otherwise it’s all guesses. Good guess so far, but may not help you specifically.

White Cloudy usually indicates bacterial bloom.

Ph 7.8, am 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 5.0, gh 3 & kh 3. This tank has been set up for about a month, but all of the media came from a tank that had been set up since Nov. ( It sprung a leak).
