Too Much At Bottom?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah if you want to get a baby look around for a delhezi, those dont seem to be as bad as senegal initial health wise (probably because senegals are always at big boxs) and arent that expensive around here. A baby del is like 20-25

Yes, gold dust and buett are the same. The juvies dont have that much gold on them though it comes out as they grow. I think you have a good plan going, if you drop the schooling fish you could probably fit another small bichir.

How many you can have total since they tend to pile and do well together depends on tank size and on filtration/water change schedule. IME 2-3 WCs a week gets bichirs growing and happy

The only places around here that I know of having Delhezi have them for 35.99. :(

Ah okay, thank you for clearing that up!

Well tank size is 72"x18"x23" like mentioned..at first the filtration will only be a Sunsun HW-304B and an Aqua-Tech 30-60. This is also partially why I'm waiting on addings the bichirs.
I'm hoping to get a second canister later on, hopefully a good one like we've talked about in one of my other threads. Such as a fx5 or fx6 or a eheim 2260.

Are my bichirs going to suffer if I only do 1 WC a week? I was thinking 25% at first in the tank while the fish are juveniles (this is without bichirs since I planned on them later), and 50% a week as the fish get bigger.

Thank you again. I seem to get the most and best responses from ya'll here in the poly section.

No they won't suffer, but bigger water changes couldn't hurt.

Think it may be okay to have a delhezi in the beginning even with just those filters and 25% weekly? It's fine if not.
I may be able to do 50% from the beginning but not sure if that would have some sort of effect when they get bigger, by never increasing the W/Cs as they get bigger.

I'd be fine with doing more W/C's..but, if ya'll remember my previous threads, I have mentioned my dad on a few occasions. He does not understand doing more than 1 W/C a week, and doesn't see a reason for anything over 50%.
He's gotten better as before he didn't see any point in going over 25% but yeah. I live in his house and he pays for the tanks so..he gets the say on those.

I imagine it's probably a bit annoying to hear that stuff from me. I'm very lucky and I know that, just trying to explain the situation.

From what I researched on the internet those should be fine. As for water changes you should be fine with 25% a lot of people only do 25%. So yeah you should be ok for a while with those conditions. The main thing is to keep up on the water changes and to not over feed etc.., Other than that stuff you should be good and once you add one of those other filters you listed those will help out tremendously in maintaining your water quality.

Yep, the most I've ever been late for a weekly W/C is by a day. Granted I've only been keeping fish since May. ><

I hope I don't end up overfeeding, I don't think I overfeed my current fish but these guys are just a whole different ballgame for me.

Thank you again. :)
