How big is the tank?

How big (wattage) is the heat pad?

How big a lamp?

Answer these and I can answer your question. ;)

its a 10 gallon, the pad is 8 wats, and i dont know about the lamp. its a zoomed basking spot light and its the smallest one they make.

the reason im concerned is that my corn snake was constipated about a week ago(the area around his cloaca was extremy swelled up)(hes ok now, i soaked him in warm water and he pooped it out) and i dont want the same to happen to my friends snake. warm temperatures are supposed to prevent this so every little bit helps.

don't bother w/ the spot light(i think the smallest is 50w) unless your house gets really cold during the day, like under 60deg. the UTH should take care of it although i'm sure a bigger tank will be much appriciated, like a 40g breeder.

Put the pad on one side of the tank. If you use just a little substrate that should be enough heat. You could just use a regualr 15 or 25 watt bulb in the light as well but put the light over the same side as the heat mat. This will make a warm side and a coller side for the corn and offer a little light for viewing.;)

Be watchful of swelling of the cloaca area. It COULD be an infection of a gland that is in that area ( name escapes me). If this is the case sometimes the gland must be removed.

I just got your message. For some reason I dont get a pop-up telling me I have a message. Sorry but the tank went to my niece for her albino ball python. If you would have gotten to me a couple of weeks ago I still had it.

yeah...but is it ok to use both?

and how do i space the tank? just put some wood or somethin under it?

thanks guys

yes

its good to have overhead and underbelly heating sources

the ones made for herps are crap

when i had my ig i used one made for people (savons) i put on the cloth sac and put it on a low setting and placed it in the cage. it ran flawlessly for 2 years. till i donated him to a rescue society.

try the local hardware store get some rubber feet with the sticky back you dont need much space just enough that the tanks not sitting on the cord..

or if you dont care how it looks use a couple strips of wood like you said already
