ummm... ok!!
my intake doesnt seem to be sucking up as strong as i expected from reading how good it should be.. for example there can be some waste on the floor about 1" from the intake and it just sits there also if there is something floating near the intake (like within a 1/4" -1/2" of the intake it DOESNT get sucked in IT WILL JUST FLOAT RIGHT BY!! and also the outakes flow isnt as strong as i expected (i didnt expect a stream but i can only feel the flow about an 1" - 1.5" in front of it! IS THIS NORMAL?

i have the bottom basket filled with fluval biomax and the middle basket also filled with biomax and the top basket is filled with eheim substrate pro. i left about 1/4" from the top like suppose to BUT is it maybe still to full? OR IS THIS WORKING normal and i was just expecting to much?

thanks

No thats not normal.

I have heard bad things about using Eheim products in the Fx5. Specifically reduced flow. Remove the Eheim product and see what happends.

Can you take a video of the output, maybe with your cell phone with a lower water level in the tank so we can see exactly what the flow is like?

unless your sub.pro is bagged it WILL fall between the "grates" in the baskets and get stuck in the impeller. I have had this happen to me before. So i would check that.

also I have over loaded some of My FX5s in the past and found out that you just can't stuff these things with tons of media. they can't pull the water though fast enough. and your floww will almost stop. I have done that a few times too.

so What I would do is take our the Sub. pro. and only use that biomax. With the design of the biomax it's alot more "flo-friendly" and will do the job just fine.

ill take video now but dont know how good it will turn out!! i have the thermo probe in front of the outtake to beable to see how much it moves at the distance it is at! ill post the video shortly

here is a link to the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUxFmcTx-uw

sorry bout the video being upside down dont know why that is but u get the idea of the flow it makes I HOPE??!!

hopefully i dont have to opent he filter up to remove the sub pro it is kinda a pain in the *** to do!!

easier then a bag... as long as you have an empty colander (pasta strainer) handy it's super easy.. just put the colander on the basket like a hat and flip over the sink... tada!...

FYI i have a layer of fluval noodles on the bottom basket loaded with substrat pro on top of it, middle basket also full of substrat pro and also gets a polishing pad and the upper basket is just a blue pad.

i ment a pain in the ass to pull out from under my tank! lol sorry shoulda been more clear bout that..

i think i will just pull the sub pro out and replace with more biomax since i have more on hand!! BUT what about the flow of the outtake is that ok in the video? im going to load another video of it here in a minute
