I just bought a top fin stand from petsmart ($150) that fits a 48x18 tank. I set it up and everything and it doesnt appear to be a total peice of junk, but it is definitely not made from 2x4s which would make me more comfortable. It seems as though all stands that are sold at any lfs could use some beefing up. Am I just being paranoid about it being able to support that much weight? I cant imagine that a stand made by a major manufaturer specifically for this size tank would fail, but I would like to know if it is a bad idea to buy these assemble yourself jobs like I just did.
