Top spot in my tank.

Wow interesting thread....op its seems your questions are being repeatedly answered...the 55 is waaaaay to small move the jags and slpit up the jds and gts. Its been repeated several times. I know you said your fish are healthy but aside from aggression the tank is too small for that amount of fish health issues will eventually arise...lack of territory and such

Plus no one can give you an idea of who will be the top spot in any tank only an educated guess on past experience. These fish all have different personalities some fish hate all other life in a tank while others will hate one particular type of fish. I have an argentea that cant be kept with anything other than small fast dithers, but also had a metae that never bothered anyone except when i introduced a small pearsei it went nuts and relentlessly beat on the pearsei and eventually had to be rehomed. So just spilt up the tank mow and enjoy your fish

Nah, that would be too easy. Everyone, to some extent, wants things to go they want them to more than they want to watch things go and respond appropriately. For example, I have tried repeatedly to have nice plants in my tanks with Vieja. I've told myself every excuse--"the fish are still small", "if the plants are big enough, the fish will just accept them as too big to eat", "fish don't eat anubias and valisneria", "that guy on youtube did it, I can, too", etc. I"ve done plants 3 times in 2 different tanks--same result every time. Algae covered plants and then stems picked clean by the fish. I'm sure I'll try it again, because--well, "Amph's don't eat plants". Now, I know that they'll rip em out and play with em, and tear em apart for fun, but I'll still probably try another bunch of valisneria and anbuias tied to stumps.

It's hard to accept "either/or" in fishkeeping. If you want plants, you can have discus. If you want big cichlids, you can't have plants. If you want Jag's, you need a very large tank. If you want a 2 foot umbee, you can't have a community. Some things some people can only learn from experience.

Ragin your 100 percent spot on. Learning what works and doesnt is part of the hobby and sometimes really enjoyable. Case in point the argentea everyone said better off left alone but i kept tryiny different things. The only difference about this thread is the op seems to be looking for a supporting answer to their set up. Everyone has given pretty decent advice and not said anything over the top. A simple "thanks for the input, i may try this anyway wish me luck" would probably have been better

It's not the size of the plants that matters. If you want your fish to not be able to eat the plants make sure that they are very hard, dead plants in the form of driftwood. A little extra light for some algae covering will help. lol ... sorry. I couldn't resist.

If you want babies from JD's, GT's or Jags you will need a bigger tank... or a converted wading pool. As far as aggro lady JD's it's not common but it does happen.
My JD female is extremely aggressive towards males I actually cannot keep cichlids in the same tank as her. She gets along great with barbs and other large non cichlids. Anytime I add other cichlids she either tries to murder them immediately or hides until the lights go out then she plays the home team advantage in the dark.

:) If you'd have told me that last year, it'd have saved me $100.
