top trim of tank is leaking ?

I used this exact method on my 60G, just lowered the tank water level and ran some silicone around the inside edge of the tanks top bracing, and touch wood, no problems since...

Touch wood ? What ya mean by that ?

And if I lower the water down for a day and etc, how long do I need to let it sit to dry around the edge, and how long should the silicone be sit and air out and dry before adding water back in ?

So how did you guys apply the silicone on it ? Just goup some on ur finger and smear it in there ? Or ya actually had your full size gun in there lol ? My tube is a 300ml tube, and will require fullsize gun....

Touch Wood / Knock on wood, you know the saying?

But to answer your question, i basically lowered my tank water level to about 50%, got a dry cloth and wiped around the inside edges, let it sit for about an hour or just to really give it some time to dry off and make sure no water was left around the trim...

From there, i got some 99% alcohol, put some on a tissue and carefully went around the inside edges just to clean off any possible leftover residue, etc, then wiped clean with a bit of clean dry tissue... after that, i just got my silicone, squeezed some around the inside edges carefully, and then got a spatular type tool to clean the edges up and make sure there were no small holes anywhere which would let water in again...

Hope that helps...

-EDIT-

I also left my tank to sit for approx 3 - 5 days before i filled it back up to the top... although in all honesty, i would say once the silicone is dry (maybe 1-2 days) you could possibly fill the tank right up again, since its not one of the main seals on the sides that your fixing...

Hmmm, I'll have to give that a try. Lay a small bead around the inside and then use my finger nice and wet to smear and push it in alittle better

It is recommended to let the silicone cure for 48 hours and longer if you still notice a vinegar type smell. Make sure you don't get silicone with mildicide (may have spelled that wrong) in it.

well i took the lids off today and cleaned the dirt off the section around the whole tank, and ran a bead of silicon around the two sides and front panel, and then took my wet finger and pushed it up and spread it up in there as best as i could hopefully in a few days it isnt stinky and i can re fill the tank back up again and hopefully no more water leaking out of the top panels... *fingers crossed* lol

well i let it sit for a day or two, wasnt really much smell after only one day but i let it sit for a couple days before adding water in it, added water last night and so far so good it run all night with water as high as it normally would leak and now no a single drop or mark under the trim from any water looks like it worked ! :D
