TOR ~Thanksgiving 2011

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They look really good Vince. I still can't tell them apart though.

awesome update... need a full tank shot!

I would if I had several more external flashes and a wide angle lens. Someday....

Very nice Vince!

Thanks to you ;)

They look really good Vince. I still can't tell them apart though.
I remember you bought a whole bunch of "tor tor" from wes, they should closely resemble the one in the 2nd pic except I remember your batch was more bronze than blue gold? And then your growouts Indian mix from wes would be short finned version in the pond of the awkwardly long finned ones I'm growing out. Still no positive ID on the small ones though. And I agree with you, hard to solidly ID these tors when there isn't really any database/catalog to refer to. We should put together a ID photo book and publish it! :D
Very nice looking fish. I saw that you are keeping some of these with Clown Loaches, but can some of these tolerate colder water? Are you heating all the tanks?
My garage is relatively warm all year round, water stays at 78 without a heater for most of the year and heater keeps it around there on colder days. Although I'm very sure the tor only tanks could manage very well without a heater since they can handle cold water no problem.

Sweet! Do they always look that blue?
Yes they do! They aren't like datnoids. These are stable and colored up all the time. :D

I have mosal, was-mussullah-now-khudree? , possibly putitora , long finned sp from india, an unknown golden one, tambroides, stracheyi, and tor tor. I think xD Not sure, so hard to ID all these.

Yes, they aren't easy to ID, even at 12"+ sizes. You clearly have T. khudree, N. hexagonalepis, N. stracheyi, and some variant of T. putitora/mussullah (long snout, but lack light tone of what putitora *should* be). I picked up young Tor tor and they exhibit clearly red/yellow finnage with white scalation; the T. tambroides I acquired have whitish-tipped finnage, and look nothing like the T. douronensis I've got, so both species appear similar to yours. Your pics are a great help to help coordinate what we've got, I wish I had the skills you do!

The last pic of the gravel-bottomed tank ... what species do you think that is? T. tambroides/tambra? What size is it?

Beautiful fish. Thank you for posting them up.

That last pic is a mosal from Wes at 13-14" .

khudree is the smallest light yellow one at 8"
i always get tor tor n hexagonalepis mixed up after Wes called them tor tor/speed king once xD I had a super long snout putitora before that was so fragile and didn't make it past the first water change , seems like pure putitora ( light tone loooong snout ) are more sensitive than others.
my tambroides had slight whitish tip fins but seems to have disappeared after they hit 14" or so.
meanwhile you mention red/yellow finnage, that seems to be the batch of growouts i got right now, except mine has long fins cuz i kept them in a low current tank. I thought tor tor are longer slender body while it seems the ones I got from Wes are relatively thick bodied. Whatever they are, they are from india, and will look awesome when they get bigger! :D

Very nice,,,May i asked What is the name of the Blue one????

my best guess is that they are some blue variant of tor tambroides from malaysia somewhere .
