Tornado flattens Oklahoma City area!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
With the size and strength of that tornado most shelters wouldn't have withstood a direct hit anyways. You build them to give secure protection against average storms but when something is that massive and powerful then it will overpower most up to code shelters.

I was appauled to hear a local radio station poke fun of this today by playing tornado sounds :( nothing to laugh about at all. Politicians already said it was the wrath of god and they pretty much had it coming. We live in a sick f ed up nation. I feel for anyone involved, especially the families of the small children. Sickening...... cant believe there were no shelters in the schools with a history of this happening in the state/town.

Incredible.

I live in Oklahoma and all of the well wishes are much appreciated. I live 60 or so miles from the area affected in Moore, it is amazing to see the outpouring of help that has been offered. There are people all over my area and the US that are going to help with donations of food, money and their time.

Living in tornado alley all of my life, I too think money should be put into underground shelters for schools. With a large tornado such as this, above ground structures don't stand a chance. It is tragic to think of the young lives lost and I have been in tears watching the news reports. It makes you think how everything can change in a minute and to not take anything for granted.

^^Thats cool to see someone else from oklahoma on here! It was a horrible tragedy though, and the amount of time to react is mere minutes like said before. I live in Tulsa, Oklahoma and ive lived here my entire life, and it now dawned on me that not one of my schools had a storm shelter. They were all heavily built but the precautions were to be huddled into hallways or windowless rooms. I supposed to buy enough storm shelters for ever student in every school in this state would be pretty expensive. At the same time there is no price on safety. It's amazing to see the support and love from all the communities in the state and in the country as people come together to help. It gives you hope finally.
