Does anyone have any good ideas for a water bowl for toises that they CAN"T knock over?
I've got a 30lb tortoise and it doesn't matter what I've used, he always manages to dump it within 20 minutes of filling. I've tried shallow bowls, glass ones, even those little rock bowls in an attempt to get something he can't knock over. The only think I can see that would work is something that tapers down and outward but I can't seem to find anything in a decent enough size for him. the steal dog bowls are too tall, he will just tip that over too in his attempt to get around it. This water issue with him is driving me NUTS! I'm thinking I'm going to have to devise some plan to screw the bowl to the floor of his pen so he can't push it over.

i dont know what you have, but can you weigh it down with rocks on the side?

Tried it... Sulcatta tortoise, he just kindof mashes through everything. I think he gets more water from eating the hay he splashes the water on than actually drinking it out of the bowl.

Can you dig a small pit to drop a bowl into? That way the sulcata couldn't really tip it over, and his shell would be less likely to catch on it. It would be a more natural way to drink as well...

I could try... I don't have sand/dirt in his pen mostly because of wieght issues, he's in a 6X3 that sits on top of my burms enclosure when he's inside. I have a dug-in bowl outside for him, but lately he's been coming in a lot more due to it being rather cool lately... and soon will be in all the time due to winter.

Ah the lovely sulcatas... With a water bowl and hay, you get water bowl all over the substrate. With a dug in water bowl and hay, you get hay in the water bowls, lovely lovely sulcatas. Apart from this though, I have no clue.

Here's an idea, nested bowls. Screw one bowl to the bottom, 2nd bowl inside that you can lift out and clean as needed. I think the sunken bowl would work fine, but if that's an issue with the stacked cages then the nested bowls might be your best bet.

It's amazing how strong they are, I'm not sure there's a bowl made that a large tort like a leo or sulcata can't tip.

+1, next best thing to a buried bowl, and will work better in a cage anyways.

this works great, it is how most of my waters are set up.
