Tossing out the shrimp.... going with Tilapia fillets!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Even the smallest pieces sink which is nice :)

At least they like tilapia. Very common in the markets here. I'll try it. I think mine ripped a shrimp apart, I tossed a live one in the tank and on the next day, I just saw limb pieces of the shrimp on the substrate. Now I feed pellets... they're messy.

You should go check out the Hawaiian Market on Valley...they have frozen Ghost Shrimps:D

i find it much easier to prepare tilapia compared to shrimp. Like the above post mentioned, the sell them individually frozen so you don't have to use all of it in one feeding. the pieces go straight to the bottom when they're thawed out...

Cohazard-great suggestion.

I have used beef heart, prawns, smelt and massivore as my staples.

I tried the Tilapia last night in 1/2" X 4" strips and the gang loved it!!

Much nicer to work with than Smelt-less smell and less mess.

Exactly! The less mess and smell the better. Did they eat it with more eagerness than other foods?

I want to try beefheart next.

It was, and it made me start to think about prey variety between populations of bichirs depending on habitat, such as those from lakes eating the (I'm guessing here) cave spawning smaller species of Tilapia, and the river inhabitants eating crabs as found in the other paper.

I didn't download the file but I should or at least saved the link so I could've referrenced it int he first post.

I always DL the pdf file so i can read them later and reference them without being on line

I too found the differences in foods quite interesting especially what was missing from the stomach contents in the other paper
on river dwelling senegals
