I saw these guys at a small zoo in Mismaloya, Jalisco (Mexico). Beautiful birds, but I can't imagine keeping one indoors - these guys had around 400 square feet of cage, about 7-8' tall.
I used to volunteer at the Columbus Zoo and they have a toucan as part of their educational shows. He has a pretty big indoor flight cage and is quite tame. They use him to show how toucans in the wild share food by throwing it to each other through the trees. He seems to enjoy interacting with people (especially because food is involved).
Are these bred in captivity, by breeders? I would think this is something thats pretty lame to keep if wild caught, as many are probably killed in transit and a bird like this isn't going to stand a small cage.
