Toucan as pet? its REAL!

Thats a great price. They breed them in few bird places in Florida and is easily over $1,200.

The dwarf types are cheaper but those arent as nice

I saw these guys at a small zoo in Mismaloya, Jalisco (Mexico). Beautiful birds, but I can't imagine keeping one indoors - these guys had around 400 square feet of cage, about 7-8' tall.

You are prolbably having your leg pulled if I were guessing. But you need to be careful with all larger birds around you eyes because they can all cause damage.

And I think it is the tocos or swainsons but can't remember for sure but for a hand raised baby it was up there with the hyacinths.

A great breeder in the US is emerald forest birds they have a huge selection.

Some of those dwarf type toucans think called toucanets are bit drab but those are very nice

A store near me has one as a pet/mascot.It is in one of those big wrought iron cages but still looks like it could use more space.

I've done a lot of research on these guys, and they make awesome pets. Like a cross between a parrot and a puppy. They do require an all-fruit diet, and while the poop is liquid, only some individuals make a mess, others are quite clean. That huge beak has almost no jaw pressure, and though it is serrated, all they can really do is squeeze a bit. They're very intelligent and can be trained very easily, I've seen them play catch and do backflips. Since they cant climb like a parrot with those beaks, they need plenty of room to hop around, so wing-clipping will hurt them much more than other pet birds. I also think its great to have them able to fly around the house, since they do follow their owners like puppies. I personally can't stand parrot screams, I've grown up around them and it was the only thing that kept me from having one of my own (my best friend had dozens, and I practically lived at his house after school every day), so toucans appealed to me from the start. Aside from one species that has a melodious call, all of them are silent, but they do purr when content.

Basically, a perfect pet for anyone with the time, money, and space. Aside from those 3 aspects, couldn't ask for a better companion.
