You'd have better luck if you could find a jag with the personality of an oscar than an oscar with the personality of a jag :)

Dont be too sure about that, my friends oscar about 10" is so mean it attacks the owner constantly (like midas/red devil), the only tankmate it has is huge pacu.
Not all fish are the same.

But for the most part oscars are mildly aggressive and the jaguars, red devil, midas, Dovii, are really aggressive.

Here is my oscar and jag when they met each other. Now they are buds.
No agression to each other at all after they were together for a few days

ooooooooh how cute one of my bronze oscars is quite agro [aggresive] that my possibly cause a problem huh? he might be one of the ones that i may give to a friend. i like the guys too much to sell him to the fish store and end up in some 40gal fo a month until somebody buys him.

Yep, just like what most said....Jags have stronger body and jaws than oscars. Plus they have larger teeth and a big mouth. So they are physically more capable/

The Majority of Oscars are considered wusses because they are usually on the mellow and peaceful side so they are not considered aggro or tough. If they were aggressive, i'm sure their rep would be larger. Their teeth are small but still enough to do damage to a fish.

Depends on the personality though. Chances of an aggressive Oscar are very very small, like 1 in 100 or something. I've seen a few huge individual Oscars that can hang with large aggro cichlids tho.

My Uncle had a 125 gallon with a 13" Common Oscar and a Red Devil of the same size. They both killed off all the other fish and each fish took each half of the tank and just flared at eachother constantly. About a year later they finally fought and the Oscar killed the Red devil. Unheard of for an Oscar but that Oscar was crazy, I saw it rip a 6" Convicts head clean off with it's huge mouth. :clap

its not about size, i put my small jag in a tank with 2 oscars almost twice his size, at first the oscars bullied him but after a couple days its the jag who controls the tank, hes even going after a channel cat 3 times his size! :screwy:

Insane. All my 6" Oscar did was kill off my 3" Hoplo catfish an 4" Rainbow Shark. They both were extremely mean. The Hoplo catfish (when he was 2") had already killed my 5" African Knife and my 2" angel. The rainbow Shark kill my 3" platinum Angel. Still puts me to shame. WoW. that is all I have to say. WoW.

Evolution can do that to most if not all species. Jags may have evolved from some very tough neighborhoods.

what makes one fish soo much tougher than another that are the same size strenghth, just asking becouse i just got a jag and im going to keep him with oscars and jd. they almost look the same other than coloration. why is it always the jag that beats up the oscars? what gives the jag the ability the thrash around another fish of the same size and strength

My texas/ jack dempsey cross is living up to his name, my one has been beaten up, and beats up. My jag and Orange pike they hate him and he hates them. I loose count of the fights they have had. one day he is immaculate the next day torn fins and scales missing. Had to take the Jag out in the end just would not leave him:swear:
