So I went to my LFS earlier today, and they had some interesting fish in stock that I'd consider for the future. The question is: which ones should I get? I'll list the standouts here (most of which I learned about on this website):
-Golden Datnoid
-Pike Cichlid
-Ocellaris Pbass
-Silver Arowana
-Lima Shovelnose Catfish
Knowing a lot of you have kept these fish, let me know which ones are my best choices! Thanks!

Don't know the size of your tank, your current stock or your future plans! That would help, I think.

But as a rule, imo, the best choices are for the ones that you can take care of properly and that you also want to have.

I agree. Most of these fish I can't get right now, due to size, plans, and price. I'm saying, if I got a tank big enough to house these fish, which would be one of the best fish to get?

you and i seem to have a lot of the same preferences. i was thinking if i ever did dats i would want a couple with a jardini and a giant gourami for a sort of southeast asia/australian vibe. im considering a lenticulata or a shovelnose for my south american tank now. i just dont know if my 7x2 will be big enough for them plus my other cichlids. from what i hear lenticulata are not team players either...

sorry if i didnt make your decision any easier. havent actually kept any of them lol.
If it's possible, as I haven't kept any of them before! (Except for the pbass; I just haven't kept the ocellaris species before)

Pike Cichlid
Some of the pikes (sveni, reagani) are small and affordable.I have never kept any of those fish, but that is what I would start with.

I've kept them all (have 3 indo dats now) lol apart from the Lima but have had retail hybrids and tiger shovelnose
My tank atm has
X3 indo datnoids 2-3inches
X1 mala wolffish 4-5 inches (ate my two 3 inch peacock bass :()
X1 tyre track eel 7-8inches
X1 synodontis angelicus 2-2.5inches
X1 featherfin catfish 3-4inches
X1 marbled sleeper goby 3.5-4.5inches
X2 pangasius sharks 3-3.5inches
And a 4inch SRD flowerhorn solo in a 55gallon lol
From my experience
Silver arowana- nervous jumpers, 60-120cm
Ocelarris peacock bass -the most common of the peacock bass, eat alot, not too expensive, gets 50-60cm
Lima shovelnose -basically a mini shovelnose which swims like a headstander fish, feels better in shoals, gets 35-45cm average
Indo/golden datnoids (Micropeltes)gets 35-50cm, most common of th datnoids, but also the most social, look amazing when stable and got a big mouth aha
