Pound-for-pound, what's the meanest, nastiest, orneriest, toughest fish you're aware of?
Personally, I'd vote for the more aggressive bettas I've encountered. Some bettas don't care about much, but I've had a couple that, if they weren't so small and basically stuck in wedding dresses, would be man-eaters. I've had a few bettas that did their level best to rip my arm apart. Most other bully fish (sunfish, damsels, etc) turn and run when they're faced with something that actually fights back, but I used to have a betta that would fight my entire arm, its reflection, the 'eye' of my camera-phone, and even the net. Demon betta, that thing.

Common pleco. Not the meanest, but certainly one of the toughest fish in the hobby.

My pacu are the toughest fish I've kept, but then the only other fish we've had are bettas, oscars and plecos. My pacu have sustained injuries that would probably have killed other fish.

This deep 2 1/2" fillet job was on the back of Adonis' head. When he ate the next day, my anxiety decreased. This pic is of his injury when it was nearly healed. It was a very gruesome injury.

Leonardo managed to tear off his lower lip, which was hanging by a thread of tissue at the corner of his mouth. His lip did regenerate, and he has his sassy grin back. He rammed into a tank lid that was accidently left ajar. They have actually knocked the heavy lids into the tank by ramming them so forcefully. When I touch my boys, they feel like tough hard rubber. They do not have a delicate feeling like oscars.

Pound for pound maybe a black piranha. Very aggressive plus it actually has the tools to bite chunks out of another fish. Maybe an alligator gar, super thick skin and jaws that make short work of many game fish. Snake heads have to rank up there as well.

dovii i would say, didnt see much fight but god i know they are aggressive, you enter the room and they like they would want to rip you apart

Tough is different than aggressive
Tough: zebra danios and Chinese algae eaters
Aggressive: beta
Remember, pound for pound
