I was wondering what people think are the toughest fish. I nominate my betta. I keep it in a 2 gallon pot and wash it out every 2 weeks. I then add water conditioner and regular tap water. He's been fine for the past 4 months. Any other fish that can do that? The Doctor.

My betta as well. They always baffled me. I had a betta 3 years ago that I kept in a 55 gallon with pristine water and frequent water changes...it died. I had another betta 2 years ago that i kept in a 10 gallon also with pristine water and frequent water changes...it died. I now have had a betta for the past 18 months that I keep in a bowl with a plant out the top and I feed it maybe twice a week when I remember and do a water change maybe once every 6 months...he is still alive and kicking. Moral of the story, if you stop caring about the fish it will live a long time. it is the perfect fish for irresponsible people. lol

Mosquitofish, Gambusia affinis

They can survive a temp. range of 34° F - 120° F
They can survive a pH range of 5.0 - 9.8
They can live in Freshwater, Brackish, and even almost full strength Salt Water
They can survive incredible amounts of ammonia
They can survive for short periods of time on atmoshperic air
Hell...one could probably live in a shot glass........full of Tequila ;)

And through all that....they will still breed like crazy.

My alligator gar jumps out of 6 foot tank at feeding time b/c of my RTC. He's jumped out like 6 times already within 9 months, he pretty tough

my dads got a channel cat that we found in a creek as a baby (2inch) and its lived in a 10 gallon with 4 inches of pond water for 5 months full of algea , dirt and snails. haha dont know how but its finally in a nice filter tank and is 5 inches now. thats tough

I will have to give mad props to my red-hooded Severum. It survived and has recovered from the worst case of Anchor worm that I have ever seen! I have NEVER seen a picture on the internet of this disease that looked even half as bad as mine. The poor thing looked like it was wearing a wool sweater. Everything else in the tank was wiped out with the exception of two weather loaches (second toughest) and two baby Florida gars.

Easiest to answer is the most fragile though: BABY PEACOCK BASS!

Baby Peacock Bass TOTALLY SUCK! I so F'ing despise these disease ridden garbage. I have tried around a dozen times to raise baby peacock bass and none of them have lasted past two inches! Same result every time. They develop (NOT CATCH) external parasites that kill them and wipe out the rest of the tank.

This last time I quarantined the baby peacocks for a full three weeks before moving them into their tank to contaminate. I might as well have bought the virius itself and added it to the tank direct and have a better chance of NOT infecting the whole tank than thinking three weeks of quarantine would do good.
