Can a tow truck charge you not to tow your car??? The tow truck came to tow my truck because I transferred my sticker after my old car died (dumb mistake obviously). But I was right there so I just said I would move my vehicle and sort out the sticker with my landlord. The guy then has me call my landlord who instructs the tow guy to charge me the fee anyway even though he did not tow me, he just left. And the tow guy was there anyway because of snow-plowing so it is not as if it was a call specifically for my vehicle. IDK I just feel violated.

He can't charge you until your car is on the tow truck. That is a "hookup fee". They then charge mileage after that. If it is on the truck, and you want him to drop it, you have to pay the hookup fee. If it isn't on the truck yet, he can't charge you. If the landlord called him out there for no reason, and the company feels that a fine of some sort is owed for wasting their time, then that is on the landlord, not you. It's not really the landlords place to tell him how to run his business, either. Just because the landlord tells him to charge you, doesn't mean he can.

Did the tow truck guy give you a bill? Did you pay? You said "he just left" so it's not clear....

x2. He can't charge you for a service that he did not render.

The car is obviously on the landlords property and he wanted action taken on her vehicle. It sounds like once Tow Truck Tony arrived he wasn't able to hook up her car and then wanted to bill the landlord anyhow. The landlord, being a jerk, told TTT to charge the tenant which is wrong if there was no hookup done.

to be honest, once the tow truck is there, he could've just tow the car and not allowed them to move it. they actually SAVED them some money by not having to make them go pick it up from the pound ontop of the hook up fee. i dont' see why they can't charge them just because they decided to be nice and allow them to move their car.

Right. Obviously, jpm violated some agreement with the landlord regarding stickers. Since the landlord called the tow truck out there, and then changed his mind for whatever reason and canceled the order, any fees would be on him. Just because jpm owns the car doesn't mean she is responsible for the landlord's poor decisions.
