ballinouttacntrol;4826147; said:to be honest, once the tow truck is there, he could've just tow the car and not allowed them to move it. they actually SAVED them some money by not having to make them go pick it up from the pound ontop of the hook up fee. i dont' see why they can't charge them just because they decided to be nice and allow them to move their car.
Absolutely incorrect. I was once parked in a lot for a local bakery. I was sitting in the driver seat while the G/F ran inside. A tow truck that patrolled the lot wanted to hook me up for illegal parking. Saying that I wasn't at the bakery. He was adament that I was waiting for someone that lived in the house next to the bakery. He actually blocked me into my spot with the truck. i refused to get out of my vehicle, and he refused to move. Shortly after the Local PD showed up and Tow guy insisted to the cop that he watched me and the G/F go into a house and that since we were illegally parked that he wanted them to make me get out of the car. The cop told him to move his truck before it was impounded. Bill $0.00
On another instance I had to go pick up my bro's car after it was towed for being abandoned (It was not abandoned it was parked in front of our house) registration, insurance and everything was in order. My Bro had his license suspended at the time and wasn't driving it. Regardless We called the tow yard that left a sticker on our door and they said he'd have to pay $350.00 to get the car back. I called the Local PD on that and asked them if they had ordered the tow for an abandoned vehicle. Answer: No. I asked them what gave the tow company the right to take the vehicle and the cop couldn't answer. I asked him if I walked into the tow yard and drove away with the car what laws would I have broken. (Answer: None). I Went to the tow lot and told them i wanted to inspect the vehicle for damage or missing items before I paid them. They let me in the lot to look over the vehicle I got in it and started it up. Drove to the gate and they wouldn't open it. I called the Local PD. and the cop told them. (You invited him onto your property hence he hasn't trespassed. and You have no order to hold the vehicle so he's not stealing. And if you don't open the gate and let him leave then you can be charged with False Imprisonment. Bill $0.00
Towing companies utilize scare tactics to charge excessive rates out of people who don't know any better.
