Since my RD won't tolerate any tankmates and he is aggresive as hell has anyone ever put something in the tank for them to play with or beat up on ? I'm going to try and use a bobber by weighting it down with some sinkers and some fishing line. Has anyone ever tired this ? I just think it would be cool to see him beat up on something that he couldn't kill. I think I've read on another forum that some has used a super ball for their oscars.

In my lfs they had these little "plastic gems" they are translucent and in shapes of like sea shells, star fish, etc. Meant to be decorations but at around 1" they make good toys. They're like 10 for 1.00 or something.

Get some pingpong balls and a pocket size mirrir. Your RD will be entertained for days weeks to come

I'll give the ping pong balls a try , we do the mirror thing on the outside of the tank , can a small mirror be placed inside the tank ?

put a cheap rubber boucy ball in there. The ball will move rapidly and get a huge reaction from ur red devil

I've done the old ping pong balls mirrors etc.. but the old 13in. female mides her favorite "toy" was when I took one of those clear hamster balls and put a 6in. male midas in the ball she pushed him around all day and all night long I eventually opened the ball after about a month and he swam out but continued to use the open ball for protection and they eventually ended up doing fine together without the ball

but it sure was fun watching her play with him in the ball

I have been thinking about getting a toy for my long fin oscar. never thought about a ping pong ball.

Thats a great story! I too would like to know how you fed the fish inside the ball. Also, did the male have a hard time getting around the tank while locked in the ball?
