Thats a great story! I too would like to know how you fed the fish inside the ball. Also, did the male have a hard time getting around the tank while locked in the ball?

I agree, that is one heck of an idea. Let us know more about this. Did your female midas let you put your hand in the tank to feed the male? I would like to try this too, but I get bit every time I put my hand in the tank.

do you poke holes in the ping pong balls to make them sink?

my midas/rd keeps himself busy all day trying to figure out how to knock off the lids and attacking the water drops he splashes up on the lid. weird.

life must be boring for him. maybe i need to find him some sort of toys as well.

I've done the old ping pong balls mirrors etc.. but the old 13in. female mides her favorite "toy" was when I took one of those clear hamster balls and put a 6in. male midas in the ball she pushed him around all day and all night long I eventually opened the ball after about a month and he swam out but continued to use the open ball for protection and they eventually ended up doing fine together without the ball

but it sure was fun watching her play with him in the ball

No, you dont need to poke halls in pingpong balls. They need to stay afloat. In fact, the reason these serve as an endless source of entertainment for your fish is because no matter what he does THEY WONT SINK -- thats the whole point

I've tried the ping pong ball and he had no intrest so I just picked up a RD a bit smaller than I wanted (about 2") and a small hamster ball, as of now he is just checking him out.
