I got my track eel sat. night and i have not been able to get him to eat yet. He is about 5" and in a 125 gal tank. I tried frozen blood worms and silver side peaces. I think i got him to eat a bight of silver side but am unsure. I tried tonight and he turned his nose. Any ideas if this could be new tank shyness? or should i be tring something else.

Most likely shy. Have the mollies bred yet? If they did, toss a few of them in there for him.

i just fished out a babby and he took it right up. thanks

try regular worms, not many fish can leave those alone ;)

:iagree: but if you have the mollies breeding, I know he will snatch those up as well.

choke his neck and yell at him to eat. thats what my dad used to do to me. a good ass kicking never hurt anyone.

JK i find stuff like this interesting cause one day i will have the same problem as you. my fish not eating.

well this is new to me, i been waiting and waiting and reading till i just got up and got it. I kinda new i was going to have truble. He must be eating some thing he looks good and in good shape. BUT he is still yung. Im just hopeing he grows at a faster rate then my oscars ;) He might be picking the rocks at night. BUT come to think of it, what would the chances of him eating a sinking pellot? I thought i seen him go after and eat one the oscars missed. Not sure on this one though, could have been me just wishing.

I too am following this thread as my fire eel doesnt eat anything but live bloodworms and so when my lfs is out of live blood bloodworms he simply doesnt eat.:irked:

not trying to hijack the thread I just think that any solutions for xstar would also apply to my situation.;)

I have tried market shrimp are you guys saying a tire track/fire eel should accept shrimp?(tiger shrimp I believe)

All my eels eat live earth worms. Go by a bait shop and put up 50 of them for 2 or 3 bucks. That should last him a week or two. I have 2 tire tracks, 2 fire eels, and 4 peacock eels. Just clean the earth worms good and find out where he is hiding and drop a few. Stand back and watch the feeding frenzy :) He will grow realy fast (unless its a male). I usely clean all my worms and just drop them in my tank. The worms will hide in the substrate and the eels will hunt them down. When your eel gets bigger then you can feed them night crawlers. Any wal-mart will have them in there sporting goods dept. Hope this helps.
