i just got an albino fire oscar not to long ago :)and just started training him to eat from my hands, my african cichlid is slowly starting to get it... is it a bad idea to do that and has anyone else done this with thier fish?

Yeah, it would be hard to forget why you lost a finger. Snakeheads are illegal in the US as well.

I see no problem with it, but be careful with the oscar. If he gets carried away, I've heard their bites hurt a bit.

i trained a Oscar to eat from my hand till when i opened the lid he would just jump out and bite my hand anywhere he could.gave him to a friend who thought it was cool to dodge it

I feed all my fish their frozen food by hand, makes them more comfortable with you. But with larger more vicious fish I suppose that'd be a bad idea eventually xD

I feed my Oscar, my Rams,my 10 inch goldfish and even one of my senegal bichirs will come up and rip stuff from my hands.....It wasn't really 'training' with the oscar because he is so greedy. I don't see any harm from it, unless you have a snake head or a dovii or something else big mean and teethy. Oscars can bite, and sometimes draw blood, but just minor scrapes no big deal.

as long as you wash your hands before feeding, I don't see any possible harm to the fish.

my MONSTER betta eats out of my hand. I know ..... livin' the life

yea i used to have 2 huge tiger oscars(they were my bfs) and i would feed them from my hand, the bite startled me but didnt really hurt that much, my little fire oscar has a tough little bite, and i heard snake heads can be mean.. so i dont want to take a chance puttin it with my fire oscar, and i didnt know they were illigal, i thought i saw one at a fish store... and felix, bettas can be lil monsters fish lol :P
