what cobras you going for? They're intelligent snakes, I imagine if what you are trying to do could work, it would work with these. To be honest, I doubt it would need a "treat" every time. Sometimes it may be disappointed but if it associates it with food and it's hungry then...

One problem would be if you ever had to do anything with it that wasn't involving food and were still using the box you'd have a "spastic" snake on your hands thats only thought is to strike. If you were getting something like a king... you could just work with it normally I'm sure, they are pretty intelligent and understand routines and you anyway.

I am hoping for some spectacle cobras but I am not 100% sure since they are rare in captivity. I might end up settling for some banded Egyptians or maybe some of those Ethiopian black heads that have been going around.

I am also not sure if this will work but I figure that if it does, it would be very helpful and there is no way to tell if it will work or not unless I try it. I am sure that I will have to tweak it a ton before it works but i suppose that will happen as I am working on it.

Again, if anyone has any ideas on what to do, I would love to hear it. I am just sort of mulling it over in my head so new thoughts are appreciated at this point.

I will keep you guys posted when I get the snakes and when I start training down the road too.

I am not a snake person by any stretch. I was under the impression that snakes can't hear but can pick up vibration in the ground. If that is true, how would a sound trigger work?

they can hear to an extent and my sound cue would be knocking on the glass so I am sure that it would be able to pick up on those vibrations.

no, those are all monocled cobras. if I am wrong could you post a link?

probably work best with a garter. they eat things such as fish and worms and have a high activity rate as opposed to a lazy python. the reason i say garters is b/c of the user who mentioned food incentive

maybe but elapids do have a higher intelligence and training a garter would be sort of pointless since they are not exactly dangerous...
