Hi ALL -
I have someone who lives about 3-4hrs from me who wants my 20"RTC. Can he survive a road trip like that? If not how long can he survive and what is needed to do this?

thanks

thor

I would use a large cooler to transport him. your lfs should have a small battery power air pump. I've seen them around before. it may be a good idea to throw an air stone or 2 in there. I think he would be ok.

3 or 4 hours is no problem ... just take a large Rubbermaid contianer and fill it till the water level is an inch or so over his back, use a bubbler and since your in a cool climate I would be looking at a small heater with a power converter in the car during the trip.

or a flask or hot water :)
I don't know what you guys in the UK do with flasks... but here we save them for our booze ;) :grinno:

it's harder to control the temp when you do that though and 3-4hours is along time to try to fiddle with water temps... I have a small 50watt heater that I use in the car... I have brought fish from 12 hours of driving in weather that was easily -40 at points with the fish in the unheated trunk with no problems with that setup :D

Thank you everybody for your answers. I feel better now knowing he can survive the trip. It will be sad letting him go but worse if he would to die in transit.

thanks again!!!

buy your battery operated pump from Wal Mart, much cheaper than the LFS

He will be ok. Remember most fish you see at your lfs were shipped sometimes across country or even from out of the country. I would try to find an air pump that you can use though.
