I have to move my arawana from my old house in maryland to my new house in VA. how should i transport him? plastic bag full of condenced air like the fishstore? or should i do a bucket?? or are there other ways?? any help would be appreciated. id like him to have a save trip.

I would do it in a 5 Gallon bucket, depending on the size, with a lid and a portable battery opperated air pump. I shipped an arowana before overnight using Kordons PolyAqua - basically a light tranqualizer/stress reducer.

How long is the drive for?

Here is a link to the aformentioned product - I picked some up from my local PetCo.

Cooler depending on the size of the aro....

No, he should not run out of air. Make sure when you pack it you DO NOT blow air into the bag to fill it w. air. There is a special technique used to trap air inside the bag. Better yet, call around and take him to your LFS. Be SUPER nice and ask them to pack him for you - using their O2 mixture. That mixture should last you 6+ hours. Make sure when you trasport him to keep him in the dark, thereby reducing stress. Basically you want to REMOVE as much stress factors as possible during transport.

so you think the bag would work if the bag is big enough. and what if i have an air compressor at my house? could i use that to blow air in... or should i just take it to the store and get them to do it for me?? thanks for your opinions

I would take it to the store. I personally took mine to PetSmart and they put him in a large bag and filled it with air. I also bought a styrofoam box to try and maintain/regulate temperature as much as possible.

i would use one of those plastic storage bins with a lid. i dunno if you have an inverter but i'd use one of those for the pump, if you're worried about oxygen. i can plug my inverter into my cig lighter in the truck and have a/c power.

Great Idea, pick up a power inverter from Walmart or Newegg. Cheap and VERY useful.

I would either use a cooler with a battery powered air stone, or pack it like you were gonna ship the fish.. In a plastic bag filled with O2, and then in a styro fish box..
