im not sure where to post this.. so mods move if need be.

im gonna be transporting 5 fish in the 10" range to a lfs (20mins or so drive time). how should i go about doing this? i plan on just getting a big cooler with tank water with an air pump or power head. that should work fine right? should i go with air pump or power head?

thanks

20min trip I dont think you need an air pump. As long as the chiller box is big enough just fill em up, tape down the lid and go. For a 2 hour trip then you might need to worry about extra air.

Float a piece of styrofoam cut just smaller than the inside top to keep splashing down (waves).

How would you supply air for a 2 hour trip? That's the distance from my house to my college. I've been looking for this tread for a while, thanks for posting it.

Battery powered air pump. They are cheap and available at mom/pop lfs' and the chains and everything between. I think walmart even has them :) I think 2 hours would be ok in a large enough container. You could stop half way take a few cups of water out and vigorously pour it back in , and even that would re-gen the DO....

you could use one of those power inverters and just plug in an air pump.

i moved to florida a while back. i transported several fish from New Jersey to Florida and back again.no casualties. 21 hour ride. i used a big rubbermade container. ac power inverter, a small fluval powerhead and a heater. and a whisper air pump. worked out great. probably overkill for a twenty minute ride though. hope this helps. good luck
