Transporting Large Fish for Move?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I transport all my fish in rubbermaid containers. That way when you get to the new place you can fill the container all the way, slap on the filter and have a temporary holding tank until you can set up their proper tank/move other stuff.

As long as you dont put anything hard or sharp into the container, the sloshing wont injure them. They just go with flow...

You can do rubbermaid containers or coolers. It really depends on your preference. I have seen (and built) some very elaborate setups for transporting larger fish. I suggest fasting them for a week beforehand, then either using a battery powered airstone or a bubbler powered by the car. I would skip cooling them, and jsut let the temp changes happen naturally. You can take a cooler, drill a hole in the top, and run airline tubing through.

You should have no trouble with the transport, with or without tranquilizers. I would worry about the setup they are moving to, however. Is it already established? Saving wet media? Just some things to think about.
