So I am going to be buying 3 piranha tomorrow. Getting them from a guy on craigslist and he is about an hour away. I was going to take 5 gallon buckets and put the piranha in them. Does this seem like a good idea? The buckets have lids that fit tight where water won't spill out - will that be okay? Anything I need to look out for?

Tight lids will deprive of oxygen.

Get some big tupperware containers, they're cheap, and maybe find a way to power airstones with a battery. Put the lid on tight but cut holes into it. An hour doesn't sound too bad.

I delivered mine 3 hours away this weekend and had not airstones and I had a lid. The water sloshing around from the car keeps it oxygenated!

i would personally use 3 buckets.. just to keep them separated..

but an hour is nothing w/o an airstone.. just throw them in the buckets.. and drive them home.. lol

You should be ok like that. When I sold mine once a guy came with a battery powered airstone, which I thought was a pretty good idea. Another idea is to take a big garbage bag, put that inside the 5 gallon bucket, then fill it with the water and catch some air in the garbage bag. Then it's just like taking them home from the fish store but in a really big bag.

they'll be fine for an hour, dont worry
