Transporting piranha

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i had a couple fish shipped from cali in bags they all arrived healthy. a lid will be fine. no worries

when I bought my serra, the first time we tried to bag him he bit through the bag. The second time we used a bag, a brown paper bag around that (so he couldn't see what was going on), and two bags around that. We also put a fish sedative in there with him. I had to drive about an hour and he was fine. The bag was sealed tight and he was okay. 5 gallon bucket should be fine with the lid on. Just make sure you acclimate him a while when you get him home. Also if the fins are frayed add a little aquarium salt on your next PWC and they should heal right up. Good luck!

Well I got them home. I actually purchased the tank, stand, equipment, piranha and everything from the guy. Which made it much harder to get going since I don't have large tank set up right now. For a while they just sat on the bottom and didn't move. The water was at about 60 and I'm sure that's why. The water is at about 72 right now and i'm raising it to about 82. As of now they are moving around and going in and out of bubbles which I think is a good sign. I added prime, easy balance and black water extract to the tank. Anything I'm missing? I think I am going to add salt tomorrow. I noticed that one had some cuts on his head. How much salt do I add?

follow the directions on the box of salt. I think it's like 1 tbsp per 5 gallons but don't quote me on that. Did you get the substrate too? You may have a mini cycle.

Nope their substrate was blue. I took about 25 gallons of water and I have the filter so hopefully I won't have a mini cycle.

Oh and I got everything for $80. I love craigslist.
