Om going to be moving some of my fish. Just the larger ones figured i would used storage containers and battery powered air pumps for the cichlids and bio media.

Do i need to use air pumps for the polys ? Im thinking i could get away with just holes cut into the top of the storage bins. What do you guys think ? Would like as many opinions as possible.

Holes are 1 1/2 inch. Then will duct tape the lid into place. They may be in the bins for up to 8 hrs.

I dont think you need air pump since they go up for air, just make sure that the box wont flip so water wont come out, and put some bio media too;)

Bump need more opinions. I figured just as Polyaddict86 Polyaddict86 is thinking but wanna be sure

Why would you cut holes in the top?

Don't know how far your moving, but they will be fine in a rubber maid bin for 12 hours+ easily as long as temp stays stable.

Allows more oxygen to go in. So when/if the water runs out of oxygen and hey come up they get fresh air.

I think they'll be fine without pumps, but happier with them.

Just wondering on how are gonna keep the temp warm?? I know that rite aid or walgreens sell heal warmer but im not sure if that will do the trick.

Bichirs breath atmospheric oxygen... oxygen content in the water doesn't matter.

To each their own, but your overthinking it. The holes will just make a mess. They will be fine in a normal bin with enough space for them to breach.

Make sure you cover your bin since bichirs are awesome acrobatic jumpers. You don't need a lot of water for bichirs. Bichirs actually do really good transporting. Mayb starve them 3-4 days before moving so they don't create a lot of poops in the water.

Im planning on duct taping the sides so i figured the holes will help get some air into the bins but i see your point.
