Transporting polys

Bichirs breath atmospheric oxygen... oxygen content in the water doesn't matter.

To each their own, but your overthinking it. The holes will just make a mess. They will be fine in a normal bin with enough space for them to breach.
Just a question, so are you saying they don't take in oxygen from the water as well? Cause from my understanding this adaptation allows them to live in very low oxygenated waters, but not water completely lacking oxygen, all other factors accounted for in this situation for the question. Just looking to learn.
 
They have lungs And can get air thru gulping. I was also under the impression they have spiracles, under gills, which also help it to get o2 thru the water. But the lungs get the majority of oxygen. That's my understanding of it. Owens Owens can u help us to understand?
 
It being warm would be my main concern if you have those bins in the bed of a truck or something where sunlight can hit them... Small amounts of water can heat up fast in sunlight . That is not accounting for phenatration if the plastic is clear it will rise higher faster. You may arrive to cooked polys for brunch
So if it is hot isulate and cover containers maybe bring some tank water Icecubes to drop in just incase or some frozen water bottles you can float for a few to lower it some.

The spiracles are what they use to actually breath air from the surface. Think of it like a blowhole on a whale, its what they use to breath atmospheric oxygen when they breach the surface of the water.

Wont you just put them in a cooler, that will be easier.

I would need some decent sized coolers for the pearsei, bio media ,and the larger polys. The bins were much cheaper.

Yes, that exactly why juvies have external gills, like axolotles.

And he means exactly you could have yanked the red gills off my albino axolotl and glued em to a poly would look just like the ones on my del.
Made me laugh when I saw them because I forgot how the gills looked on my sens when they were small.
