Traveling in Mexico

El Borbollon is an Artesian spring that pumps out thousands of GPM of cool, clear water. We stopped there for a swim on the way back from visiting Grutas de Juxtlahuaca.

We stopped at a riverside restaurant (there should be some cichlids in that river) for lunch.

Apparently this spot in the river was a popular crossing. I like these photos.

This is the spring fed pool called El Borbollon.

This reminds me of one of JK47's tanks.

The only fish I saw in the pool were these little livebearers.

Between Puerto Vallarta and San Blas is a smaal town called Altavista. The town is unremarkable other than the extraordinary view of the Pacific off in the distance. A couple miles out of town are Precolumbian petroglyphs that are definitely worth seeing if you are in the vicinity.

The view from Altavista.

One of our hobbies while on vacation in Mexico is Rental-Car-Abuse. I really enjoy pushing the boundaries of what a compact car can do off-road and this trip was a rough one. The lady that gave me directions told me how to get there but then added dubiously "pero ese carrito no llega" ("but that little car won't get there"). I have to say the little Nissan Sentra proved her wrong with only a few dents in the floor-pan to show for it. :headbang2

Just off the Puerto Vallarta-San Blas highway, a few miles out of San Blas, is a crocodile breeding and rehabilitation facility.

Crocodiles in their pens.

It is an odd feeling to get this close.

The place is located on an offshoot of the Rio Tovara.

There are loads of introduced Tilapia and Managuense.

You can just barely see the different coloration of the jag. There were some real beasts, easily 12-14"+.

We drove from Puerto Vallarta to San Blas for a road trip one day. We saw a lot of cool stuff on the way, but San Blas itself was kind of boring. Anyways, here are a few photos.
