I'm wanting to administer an epsom salt treatment to a maybe 2.5" istlanum. If its not eating what have you used on such a small fish to force feed a treatment like this? Air hose is to big.

Also I have a canister of nls hex. Would it be a good idea to feed others this or just stick with epsom salt alone?

Thanks in advance

Hexamita aka Spironucleus can spread among tank inhabitants so I would certainly feed the NLS Hex-Shield if you have it. Check local medical supply store for smaller diameter soft tubing.

How exactly do you dose fish via a feeding tube? I would imagine catching the fish, taking it out of water and holding it can be extremely stressful? Curious cause I was considering this for my 10-11in rhom but no clue how to do it? Do you try just keeping the fish wet on a towel or something?

I was also kinda stuck with the same problem of mouths being too small to force feed but i had luck with some of my cichlids who weren't eating by adding Epsom salt into the tank water. In a few days they were eating again. And it's pretty cheap and easy on the fish. But like rd said add the other stuff too if you want, one of them should work. I swear by Epsom salt now though.

Epsom salt in the water, as a bath, will act as a purgative agent - but this only helps with constipated fish, it will not cure Spironucleus aka Hexamita.

I decided against the force feed. However they were moving around decent so I decided to do the bath. Hopefully this helps and they will accept some soaked pellets

What did you use in the bath?

Sorry to hijack this thread a little but I had some wild caught angels that were not eating at all. First it was just one fish, then two, then three. They had the white stringy feces. Kinda lethargic. I added Epsom salt to the tank at 1 heaping tablespoon/10 g roughly. After about 2 or 3 days they were eating hungrily again. I assumed it was hex, could my fish have had something else the Epsom took care of?
