how much salt youd u use roughly?

you can buy a bag of morton's water softener salt (use their solar salt or rock salt) at the super market or home depot for about $5.00. if you want, use the whole 40lb bag (you can't use too much) but you'll probably only be able to dissolve half that or less in the tub.

Not true... Allot of people boil the wood for significantly longer than needed to kill living organisms, only to remove the tannins in the wood so they don't leach into the water column and turn it brow. Which sucks.... I am a tannin lover and never boil wood. Like NC said, get yourself a large rubbermaid trashcan and go with a salt bath or bleach solution. I prefer salt over bleach for fear of bleach leaching back into the tank.
No, my statement is true. You boil DW to kill any living organism and you soak it to get the tannis out to keep your water from turning brown. He was asking how to treat it...........

saltbath, and an old scrub brush thats semi-soft bristled, and scrub away.
