i'm always interested in seeing pics too. for reference, canada gets the same gars we do...and then some, since they have a much easier time getting Cuban gars--

That was the part that interested me. I know they get all of the "common species" that we have, but I was interested in a particular two.

the Cuban is really the only species somewhat differentially available, and even that difference is more or less negligible these days. the US market gets all species, moreso than any of the other markets (East Asia is maybe a close second, perhaps singapore). we have the advantage that the family is NAmerican and CAmerican, so we have more or less the best access. there's nothing you'll find in canada gar-wise that would be different than what you can find here in the US for the time being (a few more people have Cubans now, and they do go on sale from time to time).--

Ok. For some reason I was under the impression that the Cuban and Trop were more readily available in Canada than in the US.

market is virtually saturated in the US with tropical gars compared to Canada...they have more in mexico because...that's where they farm them. but yeah, since 2005, and again in 2007-present, t-gars have been pretty readily available to the demand here in the US--

I'm in Australia so we see very few, only Spotted Gar (Which is what I have) and rarely the Alligator Gar. I'll try and get a pic up tonight if I can. :)

that might have been the case back in the day, jason's time right? but nowadays the market is dead and the only gar coming in are spotteds, at 4 times the price a year ago too:irked:. and once in a blue moon gators.

i havent seen any gars in about a year at my lfs.

first one ive seen since i bought mine just came in (unfortunatly see my thread "poor gar") thier never in around here

I just found out today that the laws to our noxious list have changed, so any spotted gar or alligator gar will require a permit, that is non transferable - so if you want to move the fish on you can't sell it, it must be surrendered. :nilly:

that sucks
im sorry
