Hello...i have a couple of tree branches that have been boiled in very hot water for a couple of hours.I have taken out the barks right off the sides...and so waited and waited for it to boil the wood.Is it possible to use it in a freshwater setup? And i know it may cause a blackwater effect to the water sooner or later

i heard its not recommended due to releasing of some white glue-like substance, which is harmful to fish. like i said i only heard not sure if its true.

yea its dead alright.....i even cut a slit in it to make sure it aint green in their no more....plus this branch was sitting out in the back yard table that hasnt been used for 4 years.....so its been washed up really good....and doesnt seem like it has any sap like substances.

Well I think other than pine and cedar, you'll be ok, long as it's boiled to get rid of any potential nasties. The blackwater effect will probably be minimal.

was it dead before you boled it? if it was i think your good as long as you bake it now

it was already dead when i boiled it....and i did it to get rid of anything bad like parasites and other critters in the holes....

boiling should release most of the tannings that cause the black water effect just remember to keep changing the water in the pot and your good
