It is one of the several common names for Varanus salvator, also called(among other things) water monitor and Salvator's monitor, although not nearly as massive as a komodo it can get a little longer.

thats nothin more than a big species of moniter lizard....probably sumthin like a komodo

V. salvadori, not V. salvator. Similar names, but different species. Salvadori (Crocodile monitors) are arboreal and are what were pictured.

I saw a kid walking around with a 6 ft Crocodile monitor on his head! It was impressive to say the least. Theese monitors can reach 14 feet and climb a tree in a half second flat! They tend to be one of the most aggressive monitors and rarely tame down. If you are ever lucky enough to look an adult in the eye they are truly intimidating and magestic.

Croc monitors have some of the biggest teeth of all varanids too....

A LFS near my house had a 4 to 5 foot specimen witch they where irresponsibly trying to sell for $1200.00 They where busted by some wildlife organization (DNR,PETA,Who knows) It was confiscated and donated to a zoo. I got to see it before it was removed it looked a lot like any other monitor at that size but you could tell it was still growing fast. No animal that big and violent should be kept by a hobbyist IMHO

I have kept several Croc Monitors (Varanus salvadorii) I have never heard of one over 9' total length. My biggest was an 8' Male (give or take an inch). Also keep in mind they have long prehensile tails approx. 60% of their TL.
