Treefrog I raised from tadpole now afraid of me.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I looked White's Tree Frog. A little big and a little too frumpy for my taste. I'll be alright with my looking frog.

Update on scaredy-frog. I've been hand-feeding him crickets for awhile now and he is no longer opposed to contact. He sees my fingertip and associates it with food. When I come to the tank he moves toward me. I'm stoked! Next step - luring him onto my hand during feeding...

Each time you touch it, your damaging it. I'm almost positive frogs breathe "through their skin"

I know they absorb water through their skin, but they are breathing creatures with lungs. The only potential hazard would be toxins leeching from my skin into his, and I wouldn't be touching him often enough for this to be a concern. I also wash with white vinegar and rinse thoroughly before working in any of my tanks, so these hands are very clean. What about White's tree frog? They are supposed to be alright to handle. If that's so, then most any tree frog should be okay to make contact with occasionally, wouldn't you think?

If you must touch the frog, wash your hands first and be sure they are moist when you touch him. Your skin oils can cling to the frog and interfere with water and gas exchange.

A special kind I shouldn't talk about. They are common around here and breed like guppies, but since we are destroying their habitat, their numbers are shrinking. If I had known what species of tadpole I had, I would have released it right there. But now it is handfed and I don't know if I can release it, so I'll do the closest thing to the right thing and take good care of it.
