Triakis scyllium Availability

Triakis Scyllium or Banded Houndshark is sometimes sold as Japanese Houndshark or Japanese Leopard Shark.
Which makes some sense - when you think about that this species is a cousin of the California Leopard Shark, and that it's native to Japan. However to usually get this species you will need to find a dealer that imports live sharks from Japan, or Asia.
As for the Chain Catshark - this species is native to North American waters (namely the Atlantic Coast) and can grow to 19-24 inches (depending on the sub-species). It is possible to find captive born juveniles for sale for about $500 each.

Turbo, I am looking for ones under 20 inches. The one I already have is about this size and male. If the guy you are talking about is Chris then good luck as he and I had a serious fall out over the chain cats he was offering some time ago.

It depends on how you google them - some websites do have information on them, but yeah - prices lists tend to be hard to find.
As for water temps - as I said they are an eastern U.S./Atlantic Coast species. And as Mattiej stated they are a cool water species. Both of us are correct as the Chain Catsharks tend to be found in deeper waters - where the water temps stay below 65F/18.3 C.

I picked up one banded hound (aka 'Japanese leopard') from a local guy that had gotten it from a mis-order from a online retailer. I'll get some pics up soon as this one is a cool looking shark. I would like to add another as I read that they are a schooling shark.
The chain cats are not readily available as they are deep cold water sharks. I had paid a deposit for a pair of chains earlier this year but was never able to finalize the deal (long story but mostly on me as fault). I am still hoping to find a source for these sharks but may not work out. I have a ~500 gallon cold water system for these chains but haven't come up with the sharks yet.

....dam the chillers are expensive. Instead of me paying $300 for a chiller in the summer time for my tank, i use fans. I forgot who told me this I think it was TheCanuck aka Ashley now. I take of the glass top of the tank and place on a twin fan system above the tank. The top is replaced with screen during the summer time for the cool air from the fan to enter the water.
