The untimely death of these monsters might be a good sign to come of newer things. Possibly the birth of captive bred Beani's?
I wish I was able to jump on that band wagon.

Regardless, you still have tons of other stunning fish. Good luck!

im so sorry for your loss! he was a brilliant specimen of his species!!!

my favorite GT among all
and this was the fish that inspired me to keep GTs
the most beautiful GT i had ever seen and may be will ever see
RIP GT

Oh wow. I just saw this thread. I'm so sorry bro. He was the nicest GT I've ever seen. Scratch that, he was one of the nicest cichlids I've ever seen. Do you think it had anything to do with the massivore pellets? I remember you saying how much he's grown and everything since you started feeding them that. Does it have hormones or anything in it? Could just be that he couldn't break down all the protien.

Sorry, questions is for Greenterra but figure I'll chime in a little too.

It could of been a number of things but I believed I lost my 8-9" male GT to too much protein, while my Midas' thrived on it (Massivore Delite). Mines was just hanging out at corner of tank two days prior to passing away. I kept it on a steady diet of Hikari gold for 2 years without problem, started feeding Massivore Delite for around 2 months.

yeah he was so perfect id consider having him stuffed and mounted.. he was beautiful!

Good question.Massivore has no hormones that I am aware of.Massivore was his staple as far as pellets go but not his only food source.Massivore was 1 feeding every second day with prawns(shrimp),earthworms and meal worms making up the rest of his diet in between.Personally I don't feel it was the Massivore and still swear by it as a top quality pellet.
I have checked the heater and power head in that tank for any power leakage and they were fine.I did find the partial remains of a cockroach in the tank so I am thinking the GT may have eaten it.It may have carried poison from having the house sprayed for pests not long ago.I have covered up any gaps in all the tanks for now just in case.
