Hello all,

I am after some advice I have been thinking of setting up a trickle filter or a matrix filter on my 6x2x2 I have not got any holes or bulkheads drilled into my tank so I will be using a Overflow box.Just wondering in your opinion what would be the better sump to use Matrix or Trickle ????
Your opinions will be greatly appreciated as I have never used either style

I think this is what a matrix filter is Anyway this filter V the traditional trickle style sump filter

I would go with trickle as you will get a hell of alot more oxygenation than with the sump above.

Why not both? Make a wet/dry part, and then if you think you need more biomedia, put some matrix in it.

personally I have been through this decision as well and I decided to go with matrix, a personal decision but I just didnt think the wet dry system would work for me. I found that there were to many pro's towards matrix rather than a wet/dry

Regardless I believe it is essential to have an oxygenated area and I cant see why this would not be applicable to the matrix

You can always pack it with bio-media, it really is upto the keeper.

Sumps are fantastic, easy & very efficient filters that can be maximised to our liking.

This is the most common type of filter here. I may be showing my inexperinece but i thouhgt this was a sump!! the first big chamber is filled with bio balls and should have a drip tray on top of them, the second chamber (for fresh water) is filled with what ever substrste you want to use. the third chamber is up to you, a lot of the time i see these empty except for a few local leaves with natural meds in them.
