I have a blue lined trigger fish in a 72 bow front with a blue lined grouper both are about the same size 2.5-3".The trigger is sniping the fins on the grouper and this morning i seen a chunk missing from his side and i have no sw qt tank what can i do?I was thinking some dithers like some green chromides or some other small cheap fast moving fish that will keep the trigger busy while the grouper heals up.I really want both of these fish to survive and grow up together any suggestions would be appreciated.

Give up. There is now ay you can keep them both in that tank as adults anyway. And if the trigger is too aggro for ya already it is only gonna get worse.

Yeah, that could be a tough one. Bluelines are nastly little guys...he may continue to beat on that grouper even if you have dithers in there.

What is the tank set up like?
Do you have a lot of hide spots and visual barriers?

Like chrisdef15 said, you can't keep them in there for the long run anyway, so it might be a good idea to either split them up or just keep the one you like so someone doesn't end up dead.

Best of luck.

My grouper is::irked::cry: cry:  DEAD:cry:   :irked: I am aware that those fish would not be able to stay in the 72 for life i have a 125 to move them up to.I wanted them to grow up together so hopefully things would be smoother when they matured:nilly: I have learned from my mistake i set up a 10 gal qt tank for future problems i have 20 gal qt for my fw cichlids so i got to have a qt for my mean sw fish as well.I will not give up on this combo i will go and get a new blue lined grouper 2 x as big as the trigger plus a few dithers.:grinno:

So your first attempt failed.....so you're going to try again?

Regardless of how big the grouper is, blue line triggers are mean. I wouldn't risk it again.

Is there a type of grouper u would recomend or a type of trigger that would do well with the blue lined long term?I am trying to put together a couple of predators now while they are small.

I definitely wouldn't add another trigger...that will end bad...very bad.

I don't think any grouper is going to do well with a blue line...I think you got yourself a species tank there. There are ways to add them for the short term...but I don't think it will make a difference over the long haul.
