the strange occurance is that they like to eat bristle worms. any one else seen or herd of this behavior?
all my triggers are fat and heathy, yet they seem to find any bristle worms in my tank and eat them. i don't mind as i dislike touching them due to the burning after. i have a very small population of them in the tank and i don't care if they are there aslong as they aren't big enough to eat any fish since i can't have a clean up crew they kinda fill the nich. when i do any cleaning and move the rocks around i expose some and even after being fed they tare them up and eat them.
i noticed that my niger is most fond of them, but the picasso is normally the finder and starts the frenzy on them. after one trigger sees the other with something like food it is on like donkey kong. they all try to take and eat it.
the way the triggers eat the worms is, first they take the worms in their mouth and spit it out. they will do this over and over till all the "hairs" are off. then they rip the worms into bite size chunks till there is no more worm. i found this fasinating.
to continue the update. there has been some full on UFC style fights. mainly between the niger and pinktail. the niger has grabbed a mouth full of pinktails trigger spine then rolled and grunted till the pinktail hit it on a rock to get it off, only for the pinktail to do the same after. then the pinktail is pissed off and the niger retreats to were the pinktail can't get it so the pinktail goes after the bluejaw. this only happens once a month at most, but it is wild when it does.
98% of the time it is peace though. for the most part they all seem to get along, with the ocational nip here and there. aswell as some tankmate tail fin nips. they eat everything i put in the tank. new life spectrum pellets, hikari food sticks, shrimp, tillapia, scallops, crab meat.
the picasso has started to nip at the scrub brush that i use to clean some things. it seems to taste test everything it can find. the pinktail has been the only one to move any rocks, shells, or anything to change up the tank. witch is conturary to everything i have read on them. none of them have bite me other then on accident during hand feedings.
all around total awsomeness has come out of my experiment.
