Ok sooo ive decided i want a pair of trimacs and im going to start them off in this tank its roughly 90 gallons. But before i start researching them and dive into this is there anyone who has any advice for me with these fish. I really like the ones that are super yellow with the black and red. Im not sure if this is specific collection point or its bred in like flowerhorns. I dunno tho what your thoughts?

From what I've been told it's hard to get ur hands on a pure trimac, most label low grade flower horns as trimac without realizing it because of how similar they are in looks. Try to get one from a reputable source. I never had one but the ones I've seen on YouTube are awesome tons of attitude and size.

I think the really yellow ones your talking about are a line bred type pyro or something like that. Personally I think the natural catch locations are better looking. If you want a pair buy six juveniles from a reputable dealer and let some pair up naturaly. As adults your looking at 14+ inch highly aggressive fish.

Real (natural) trimacs are very deeply yellow (at least the males are).
I agree with Dan518, if you really want a solidly bonded pair, it is probably best to buy a group of youngsters, and grow them out together in the largest tank possible, and let them choose mates. In the process the mated pair will destroy some of the others. This is part of becoming a bonded pair. And as Dan518 said, this is potentially a 14" fish (my minimum tank size) would be 6ft tank, 150 gallons or larger.

My advice for you is to get a bigger tank before you even start. Possibly 2 or 3 if you want to breed Trimac's and keep the fry.

I just got 4 from Jeff Rapps at 3-5 inches, put all 4 in my 125. that didn't last a week, now I have 2 in the 125 and 2 in my 540.

I don't know first hand what they're like as adults (though I've heard tales), but I can tell you they are quite mean at smaller sizes.

You can get real Trimacs at tangledupincichlids.com, and at cichlidsoftheamericas.com.

Awesome yeah i own a cichlid specialty store so houseong them would not be a problem trimac is just one of those species i dont know much about but have always been intrigued about. I figured id call jeff but i didnt know if u guys knew a better breeder or if the yellows were pure but i really appreciate all the feed back thank you

There is no better breeder than Jeff Rapps. Especially when it comes to Trimac's. He's been shipping real Trimac's for maybe 20 years, maybe more.

Dan at CoA is also highly respected breeder. If you order from them, you'll get what you ordered.
