Trimac feeding advice please

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The only way that it has worked for me was by feeding pellets exclusively. You may add a variety of pellets if that is how you feed your fish. But I wouldn't feed any live food at all, not even as treats until your Trimac readily accepts pellets. If it goes on too long without the Trimac eating, then you may have to feed it whatever it will eat before it falls ill. I doubt it will last that long though.

cheers buddy, il stick to the pellets and hope it works out

My cichlids are only fed pellets and they are in excellent health.I feed nls and hikari bio- gold exclusively and imo a high ouality pellet is a complete diet and you dont need anything else .Good luck with him.

well thought id give you guys an update on the feeding situation, moved them to the big tank on sunday and tried to persist with feeding pellets, the stubborn little git was having none of it. So was recommended to try nls, i switched over and he still didnt give in but while i was at the lfs i saw some nls finicky food pellets (think it was called nls spectramax finicky feed pellets) all i can say is what a product, he ate them straightaway, if you have problems with a fish eating get these as he likes them so much that in his eagerness to eat them he has started eating the other pellets aswell. Well impressed and very glad my trimac is now eating a proper diet

The main ingredient in NLS Finicky Fish formula is mussel meal, most fish have a difficult time passing up on the smell & taste of that food. Good stuff, but expensive. IMO once your fish gets going good on that formula, switch him over to one of the less expensive NLS foods.

yeah that was my toughts, thankfully he has started taking the other pellets aswell, so i plan on reducing the finicky pellets as he carrys on eating the normal nls stuff untill it is just the normal nls going in. his feeding responce was great though, i was starting to panic at him not eating

This might sound dumb but I had the same issue with my female trimac and after switching from bio gold to cichlid gold she started eating them. I honestly think it was simply the color. I had a midas do the exact same thing once

it could well be iv heard with certain types of fishing a simple colour change can induce a bite but i dont think so in this case as i had tried about 5 different pellets all different colours, im pretty positive its the ingredients as the feeding response was farely aggressive

I never knew NLS made a finicky fish formula. I only see about two different types in the stores around here. I'm glad your Trimac took to them. Well at least now you know that he is eating a high quality food and will have a better chance at staying healthy.
